7 tips to leverage Google+ to its fullest

Google

There is an abundance of content on the Google+ vs Facebook tiff, and why business should use Google+, but the truth of the matter is that we are really still trying to figure out what best practices are in terms of leveraging this technology. I therefore wanted to share the few things I worked out about how make the best out of Google+ for business, based on work we did over the last few months.

Google+ vs Facebook

Back in July, Google+ had over 10 million users and by the end of October, this had increased to over 40 million, making it the fastest growing social media network out there. Nearly half of those users are in the technology field, and 75% are male. I was quite enchanted with the new Google+, loving the circles approach and the hangouts, along with the solid control users have over their privacy. The thing that less then excited me was the release of their brand pages. The lack of flexibility, along with the questionable performance of the design tool for your logo, left me disappointed. The fact that none of the big social media management tools have integrated with google+ didn’t help either, and the fact that I am having a really hard time connecting with people overall leaves me wanting. You could say that they are only in the beginning stages. I agree, but if you are going up against Facebook – wouldn’t you want to come out of the gate strong?

9 reasons why businesses should use Google+

I was going through the LinkedIn answers section over the week-end, when I saw a question around invitations to join Google+, with a few answers being around “what is the big deal?”. I admit to having the same thoughts, but after playing around with it for a bit, I am getting excited about this new Google product. I only wish they would hurry up and go live with it, because there is something to be said for creating a lot of buzz, followed by a delay upon delay when it comes to the go live date.
